This new leather cover made by Amazon for the 6" Kindle is the same excellent quality leather as the black leather cover (also made by Amazon) that I have been using for the past year. (I use my Kindle every day and the old cover still looks brand new.) I especially love the new stretchy strap, as I previously used a thick rubber band to keep my Kindle closed when I travelled with it. The cover is virtually identical on the inside (same hinge-hook system, gray felt lining). Another nice feature of the new improved cover: it is impossible to mistake the back for the front. I understand that some people opened the older-style cover upside down and backwards and damaged their Kindles. All in all, this cover is an improvement over the old one. And I love the new colors, too!

Weighing only 6.5 ounces, this lightweight cover is perfect for taking Kindle wherever you go. The sleek and sturdy leather ensures the ultimate fit and protection without adding bulk and weight.

Read in Comfort
Reading with the cover on, you can easily access Kindle's navigation features and power switch, while the rounded edges offer a perfect fit in your hands. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can also read comfortably with just one hand.

Secure Your Kindle
Our patent-pending hinge system secures your Kindle to the cover, with a strap to keep the cover firmly closed. Simply attach Kindle (6" Display) into the cover, apply the strap, and rest assured it will stay firmly in place even when you're on the go.

The old Kindle 2 cover looked nice, felt well made, and provided reasonable protection from the elements, but it had one big flaw: it had no mechanism to keep the cover securely closed. I often found that if I had my Kindle in my bag and it wasn't packed tight, the cover would open on its own through normal jostling of my bag. Sometimes it would even open the wrong way, and that would bend the hooks which attach the cover to the Kindle. Those bent hooks could cause the Kindle itself to crack -- and thankfully, although my hooks bent, my Kindle didn't crack!

When people say the Kindle is sleek they ain't kidding. Everything is very nicely laid out and it just feels and looks cool!

After reading through the introductory guide that loads up automatically at the start and following along it took me almost no time to learn which buttons are where and what each of them do. The intro guide is plenty to get started and I haven't felt a need to work my way through the more detailed guide.

The 5-way controller is teensy! I was a bit taken aback at first by this thinking it was going to be too small to manipulate easily. But it only took me a couple tries to get it right. Using a fingernail to push it does the trick. For people who have dexterity issues though it could be a potential stumbling block. If that's you I'd recommend seeing if you can find someone with a Kindle 2 to try it out for yourself first to see how it works for you.

Reader's Digest

Reader's Digest (Kindle Edition)

Winner of the 2009 National Magazine Award for General Excellence, Reader's Digest “reinvented itself with imaginative and timely stories and an engaging contemporary voice,” say the judges for the American Society of Magazine Editors. “Articles about ordinary people overcoming extraordinary obstacles, useful and accessible service pieces on health and personal finance, and delightful humor columns make Reader’s Digest not only a good companion but also a great escape.”

The Kindle Edition of Reader's Digest contains most articles found in the print edition, but will not include all images. For your convenience, issues are auto-delivered wirelessly to your Kindle at the same time the print edition hits the newsstand.

For all those that complained that the Reader's Digest left out the humor in its Kindle version, I just purchased mine and looks like they heard the cries and have added it in. I found the "Humor in Uniform", "Life in these United States", etc. I love reading these in the RD and I'm happy to see the Kindle edition has them. Articles contained pictures which I also found worthwhile. All in all, I found the RD rather nice on the Kindle and will continue to subscribe.

I have subscribed to the Reader's Digest for years. This is the first time I've finished it in years. The content has never been the problem. Like most magazines, the annoyances have been wading through ads to find the articles, and then leaving a trail of subscription postcards throughout the house, each time I turn a page ... and then there are those ads that are stiff like postcard material, but which are not meant to be ripped out and preclude easily holding open the magazine. That might sound like a short and petty list of annoyances, but it was enough to make me reach for something else to read. I mean, let's face it, the information in Reader's Digest is not earth shattering; it isn't anything I can't get on the Internet or from another magazine. So, if it isn't easy to read, it's just not going to get done. With the Kindle, the problem has been solved. I love that I can read the articles without the annoyances.
